The first question we ask of anyone coming to us for a web site is “Why?”
All too often in the past the answer has been some variation along the lines of “Because we think it’s about time we had one”.
We believe that a web site should have function. (And it should be remembered that this might be something performed better by print or another traditional medium. This is an inconvenient little fact that has often been overlooked during the internet gold rush.)
• To communicate with a potential or existing audience.
• To allow an audience to find out information about your products or services at their own pace and to a level of detail that could not be achieved over the telephone or by other means.
• To save your company or organisation time by shifting the burden of communicating about your products from your sales team to the potential customer. With an informative and clear web site, you can greatly reduce the time your team spends on first contact sales calls and casual enquiry calls, enabling them to focus on more profitable activity.
• To ensure that potential customers who contact you are already “pre-selected” — they have essentially identified themselves as being interested in what you have to offer, making the task of your sales team easier.
• To offer a more compelling and effective mechanism of support and communication with customers who have already purchased from you and perhaps require assistance getting started. This is enhanced by the opportunity to contact other customers who have also purchased from you, forming a supportive virtual community of users.
• To reach a wider potential audience than was traditionally available to you, particularly through search technologies such as Google and advertising schemes like AdWords.
• To enhance the range and type of product you can offer without being limited by actual physical location. With modern e-commerce and payment clearing systems one can offer the user a complete high street shopping experience, with superior service and support.
• To allow a niche or specialist product or service to penetrate far further field than might be traditionally possible.
We adhere to the Rules of Clarity and Simplicity. Our philosophy is that cleverness at the expense of clarity has no place in web site construction. Simplicity is king. Too much today is too complicated. Simple straightforward goals are far more likely to be achieved. Simplicity is far less likely to go wrong or require expensive maintenance. Simplicity is far more likely to make a sale and keep a customer coming back for more.
Whilst SEO and AdWords campaigns have much to offer, we sometimes find that getting more traffic to a web site is not the answer. Often the problem is that poor site design results in a poor conversion rate of hits into sales, and some simple usability testing and redesign of the site results in more sales without needing an increased advertising spend.
All of our web sites are custom designed; we don’t use templates.
We can provide HTML templates for intranet use to help you maintain your company branding across internal as well as external networks.
